Lateral Retinacular Release Surgery

Wildlife

Symptoms

•Pain in the front of the knee, especially when you squat, jump, kneel, or use stairs (most often when going down stairs).

•A feeling of popping, grinding, slipping, or catching in your kneecap when you bend or straighten your leg.

Causes

It is caused by imbalances in the forces controlling patellar tracking during knee flexion and extension, particularly with overloading of the joint.

Risk factors include overuse, trauma, muscle dysfunction, tight lateral restraints, patellar hypermobility, and poor quadriceps flexibility

More about Treatment

This is an arthroscopic surgery which is performed through 3 small incisions ( about ½ inch each) around the knee. From the inside of the knee the lateral retinaculum is incised, from the inside, allowing the kneecap to untilit itself.
