Symptoms

  • Abnormal cry (weak, soft or absent)

Causes

  • Laryngeal web is often a congenital defect, which means it is present from birth
  • In some cases, laryngeal webs are acquired, often resulting from long-term intubation

Laryngeal web is a rare congenital anomaly. Traditionally, the treatment of choice for laryngeal web was laryngofissure with placement of a keel however; endoscopic laser excision of the web with keel placement is now the preferred technique for thin anterior glottic webs.

 

DIAGNOSIS:

  • Laryngeal web is a congenital condition where there is failure of resorption of tissue between the vocal folds, causing varying degrees of airway obstruction.
  • The condition may present at birth or in infancy with respiratory distress, stridor, and an unusual, weak, or absent cry
