Symptoms

  • Fever or chills.
  • Heavy bleeding or unusual vaginal discharge.

  • Heavy periods – which can be caused by fibroids.
  • Pelvic pain – which may be caused by endometriosis, unsuccessfully treated pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), adenomyosis or fibroids.
  • Prolapse of the uterus.
  • cancer of the womb, ovaries or cervix

Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus. It may also involve removal of the cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes and other surrounding structures.

 

DIAGNOSIS

This procedure is called endometrial sampling. Also, pelvic ultrasounds and/or pelvic computerized tomography (CT) tests can be done to confirm a diagnosis.

In a woman with pelvic pain or bleeding, a trial of medication treatment is often given before a hysterectomy is considered
