Causes

UTIs typically occur when bacteria outside the body enter the urinary tract through the urethra and begin to multiply. Most cases of cystitis are caused by a type of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria. Bacterial bladder infections may occur in women as a result of sexual intercourse.

Bladder instillation is a combination drug therapy to help painful bladder or cystitis type symptoms including frequency, urgency, burning pain or stinging sensations when passing urine. It works by reducing inflammation and discomfort within the bladder.

Interstitial Cystitis generally mimics Urinary Tract Infection and there is no diagnostic method to diagnose but symptoms generally help to reach diagnosis and UTIs should be excluded in Urine culture.

For the pain relief Pain killer,avoiding triggering factor,Exercise and physiotherapy can be considered.Cystoscopy should be done and cystectomy if required.Bladder Distension can be considered if other treatment fails.

Generally, an Urologist performs this procedure. But if you are capable of tolerating pain, self instillation is also possible.

Is it painful?

Yes it is painful. Catheter is generally lubricated with local anaesthetic but one can experience pain while performing this procedure.

Complications or after procedure effects include Pain, burning or stinging for a few days, increased frequency or urgency. Urinary bladder infection may be caused due to improper aseptic precautions. But most of the symptoms will resolve over time.

Which drugs are used for bladder instillation?

Drugs used in this condition depend upon severity of disease,Candidate profile. Dimethyl Sulfoxide achieves good results in some patients. Also Lignocaine,Heparin,Sodium hyaluronate can be combined often called as Bladder Cocktail.
